Peace River Heatwave
Location : Peace River Motocross Track, County of Northern Lights, Alberta, Canada.
This was a memorably hot weekend. My family and I left early because the kids were red as tomatoes and we were almost out of water. We were camping a couple hours away and the car ride was the only cool-down time they had, boy was I was thankful for it.
The drive to Peace River, Alberta was stunning, an unforgettable drive through Dunevagan and the rolling hills, coming into a peaceful yet bustling town set along a river. I didn't get the chance to stop in town but I can't wait for that day to come.
This race I had a specific image in mind that I wanted to capture. I thought a photo that was all sky and rider would look really sweet. I was trying to find the right angle, jump, and position. Finally I found it and it was just a matter of waiting for someone to jump far enough off the ground.
The first good shot I got was one of my favourite riders to watch and photograph. I call these images the Big Sky shot. They are still one of my favourite photos to capture to this day as a motocross photographer.
I learned some valuable lessons at the Peace River Motocross Track.
⦁ Always bring double the amount of water
⦁ Pack a mini pool for the kids
⦁ Keep trying to get the shot you envision. You might not get it the first time, but you will.
